Online shoe store: a size that did not fit comes back to your warehouse

An online shoe store differs from any other in one respect: the shopper cannot try the product on. So what decides the outcome here is not design but accuracy: whether this size is actually available, whether the size chart is clear, and whether you will have to take back half of the shipments. We build a store where a model is one product page with size variants, stock is counted for each size separately, and the filter shows only what can actually be bought today.

Who it's for

Situations where this service delivers results

Scenario 1 of 4

A brick-and-mortar shoe store going online

There is a physical location, a range and suppliers, but no website. The main question is not “how to make it look nice” but how to avoid shipping sizes that are not actually in the warehouse.

We'll review your situation in a free audit
What's included

Complete list of work and what you get as a result

  • a catalog where a model is one product page and sizes are its variants, not separate products
  • stock tracked for each size separately, with what is out of stock hidden
  • a size chart on the product page, including insole length in centimeters
  • a size filter that shows only the pairs in stock, not the whole catalog
  • a product page with an honest description of fit and width, if you have this data
  • a cart and checkout with Ukrainian delivery and payment methods
  • pages with exchange and return terms written in plain language
  • technical groundwork for search: structured data, breadcrumbs, canonical URLs, a sitemap
  • handover with a description of how the catalog is organized and how to add new models
When this service isn't right

What's not included — so there are no surprises at delivery

  • photographing the shoes and writing model descriptions
  • arrangements with suppliers about availability and lead times
  • the work of the delivery service and processing returns on your side
  • promises of search rankings or a specific sales volume
  • purchasing stock and building the product range

Free review of your task

We do not look at the site in general, but at what makes the footwear niche distinct: sizes, stock and returns. This is where stores in this niche lose money most often.

What we measure

  1. How many models and how many sizesA catalog of 300 models in eight sizes means 2,400 stock-keeping units. This figure determines almost everything else: the catalog structure, how stock is updated and the scope of work.
  2. How many different size systemsEuropean, US, insole length in centimeters: each brand may have its own, and the shopper should see the one that is clear to them.
  3. Where the stock data comes fromIf stock by size is kept in an accounting system or a spreadsheet, the site should pull it automatically rather than duplicate it by hand.
  4. What happens with returns nowThe share of returns due to size is the core economics of the niche. We look at what can be removed before the sale, on the product page.
  5. Technical state, if you already have a siteResponse speed, structured data, canonical URLs, sitemap: the same things we measured in the stores of this niche.
  6. Where the order should goEmail, a CRM or an accounting system: this determines how much manual work remains after launch.

What you get

  • a list of what affects the result in the niche, with the reasons explained
  • a proposed catalog structure for models and sizes
  • an estimate of the work broken down by stage
  • an honest answer on whether you need this work at all

Timeline: 2–4 working days

Why is it free

Without a review, any figure would be guesswork: a store with 50 models and a store with 3,000 stock-keeping units are different jobs, and the difference is not a matter of percentages.

What's next

You receive the list and the estimate. Then you decide for yourself: work with us, do it in-house or put it off. The document stays with you.

  • Contract, act and 30-day warranty

Every project gets a written contract: scope, deadlines, amount, acceptance procedure. After delivery — act and invoice, then 30 calendar days of warranty.

  • Sole proprietor & bank transfer

The contractor is a registered sole proprietor. Payment by invoice with closing documents.

  • Rights & access — yours

Code, design and materials transfer to you after full payment. Domain, hosting, repository and analytics are registered to you.

  • Client portal instead of email chains

During the project you get access to a portal: contracts, invoices, acts and project status in one place.

  • Sites in nine countries

Our sites run in nine countries: besides Ukraine — Poland, Germany, Austria, England, Norway, Bulgaria, Moldova and Spain.

  • Verifiable numbers

Every case in the portfolio comes with a link to a live site and a technical measurement.

  • Audit first, then pricing

There is no price list on the site intentionally: the scope of the same work differs multiples between clients.

  • We say "no" when unsure

If the task isn't ours or the deadline is unrealistic — we tell you upfront.

What affects the price

Why two seemingly identical tasks are priced differently

  • Number of stock-keeping unitsWhat counts is not models but “model + size” pairs. This figure determines how much data has to be migrated and how complex stock updates will be.
  • Number of size systemsOne system means one chart. Five brands with their own systems mean mapping between them and separate display logic on the product page.
  • Where stock updates come fromManual entry in the admin panel is the simplest option and the most expensive to run. Syncing with an accounting system costs more at the start but removes daily work.
  • Content readinessIf photos and descriptions already exist in a structured form, filling the catalog is quick. If the data is scattered across spreadsheets and messages, that is a separate stage.
  • Number of delivery and payment methodsEach “delivery × payment” pair is a separate scenario that has to be tested. It takes a noticeable part of the timeline, and it is what determines the quality of checkout.
  • Whether there is anything to migrateA new store from scratch is simpler than migrating from an existing site: a migration adds URL preservation, redirects and data reconciliation after the move.
Process steps

Transparent stages with approval at every step

Total duration:20–60 days

  1. Reviewing the task

    2–4 working days

We count the stock-keeping units, sort out the size systems and look at where the stock data will come from. If a site already exists, we measure its technical state. The result is a list of work and an estimate.

  2. Catalog structure

    3–7 working days

We design the catalog so that a model is one product page with size variants. At the same stage we define the categories, the filters and how availability is shown.

  3. Building the store

    10–30 working days

We build the catalog, the product page with a size chart, and filters by size and purpose. We work in a test environment.

  4. Stock, delivery and payment

    5–15 working days

We connect stock updates by size, delivery and payment methods, and test each combination separately. We add pages with exchange and return terms.

  5. Technical groundwork for search

    3–7 working days

Structured data, breadcrumbs, canonical URLs, a sitemap, response speed. This is what most of the stores we measured in this niche were missing.

  6. Launch and handover

    2–5 working days

We roll out the store, watch the first orders, and hand over a description of the catalog and instructions for the content manager. Then the 30-day warranty applies from the date the acceptance act is signed.

Tasks and results in numbers — all metrics measured by us

a sample of 5 Ukrainian online stores in the “footwear” niche

Task
Find out what state the sites in the “footwear” niche are really in, rather than what their owners say: the technical groundwork, measurement and site size.
Solution
An external measurement without access to anyone's admin panel: first response time as the median of several measurements, the catalog from the sitemap with URL deduplication, counters in the home page HTML, the PHP version from headers, hreflang, TLS, robots.txt and the canonical URL.
Result
Measured on 17 September 2026: 5 Ukrainian online stores in the “footwear” niche were checked. 5 of 5 have no breadcrumb markup; 4 of 5 have no canonical URL on the homepage; 2 of 5 have no local business markup; 1 of 5 have no structured data. Median first response time: 244.1 ms; median sitemap size: 12,762 URLs.

Pancer Protection

an online store of tactical and military gear with a catalog of over 50,000 SKUs

Task
Keep a very large range of tactical gear (body armor, clothing, footwear, backpacks, communications, optics) in a single store with detailed filtering by attributes, without losing page delivery speed.
Solution
A store on OpenCart 3 (chameleon theme + NeoSeo modules) behind Cloudflare. Two language versions. Full local-store JSON-LD markup: Store, Place, GeoCoordinates, PostalAddress, OpeningHoursSpecification, ContactPoint, WebSite, SearchAction. At checkout: LiqPay, online card payment, cash on delivery, cash on collection, bank transfer and online installments (dataLayer events). Binotel telephony, eSputnik email marketing, Google sign-in, GTM, GA4, Google Ads.
Result
54,302 products and 635 categories. The figure is confirmed by two independent methods: a sitemap index of 32 product files gives 110,096 URLs across two languages, and a cross-check through OpenCart search gives 54,501–54,600 items (a 0.4% discrepancy). A catalog of 54,000 SKUs returns the first response in 0.41 s and the full HTML load in 0.51 s at 422 KB. Nine JSON-LD types on the home page. Five payment methods, including LiqPay and online installments. Measured 31 July 2026.
What we need from you

We can't start without this — best to prepare in advance

  1. a list of models with sizes and current stock
  2. the size systems of the brands you work with
  3. photos and descriptions of the models, or access to the source they can be taken from
  4. your store's delivery, exchange and return terms
  5. where the order should go after checkout
  6. who on your side accepts the work and can answer on the substance
If something is missing — let us know, we'll help you gather it or do it as a separate task.
FAQ

Most frequently asked questions — with concrete answers

Why should sizes be variants rather than separate products?

Because otherwise one and the same boot turns into eight product pages that compete with each other in search and in your own catalog. The shopper scrolls through near-identical items, the warehouse cannot see stock per model, and the size filter has to be maintained by hand. Variants solve all three problems at once.

What should be shown when a size is out of stock?

Most often the right move is to hide such variants from the filter but keep them visible on the product page marked “out of stock”. That way the shopper understands the model exists in this size and can subscribe to a back-in-stock notice. Hiding them completely means losing part of the demand without a trace.

Can returns due to size be reduced?

Partly, and that is the honest way to put it. Insole length in centimeters, a hint about width, a description of the fit and photos on the foot remove some of the mistakes before the order is placed. But you cannot try shoes on online, so a certain level of returns will always remain in this niche. We do not promise percentages: we promise to remove the causes that can be removed.

How long does development take?

23 to 64 working days. The range is wide precisely because of the number of stock-keeping units: migrating 400 pairs and migrating 4,000 are different kinds of work. We name the exact timeline after the review, once the models and sizes have been counted.

Our stock is kept in 1C. Will the site be able to pull it?

Yes, this is a routine task for us. During the review we look at how your stock by size is kept and whether items have a stable number they can be matched by. If there are no such numbers, the SKUs will have to be put in order first, and we will tell you so before the work starts, not halfway through.

Do you guarantee search rankings?

No. Nobody who understands how search works guarantees rankings. We are responsible for the technical groundwork: speed, structured data, canonical URLs, a sitemap and a clear catalog structure. In the stores of this niche that we measured, this is exactly what was missing most often.

What happens after launch if something goes wrong?

A 30-calendar-day warranty applies from the date the acceptance act is signed: errors that are our fault are fixed free of charge. This is a clause in the contract. The domain, hosting and analytics are registered in your name, so access to everything stays with you regardless of any further cooperation.

Do you only build on OpenCart?

Most often yes: this is the platform where we have the most experience with online stores. But we have also worked with WooCommerce and with custom platforms. The choice depends on your range and on what you already work with; during the review we will say what fits your case better.

There is no price list on the site on purpose: the same work differs several times over between two clients, and a “from” figure explains nothing in that case. First a free audit — we count your pages, duplicates and speed — then we name the sum and the deadline and fix both in the contract.
