Textile online store: size, fabric composition and a color that has to match the photo

People buy textiles by touch, and online there is no touch. Three things work in its place: an exact size in centimeters, an honest fabric composition, and a color in the photo that matches what arrives. A store that writes “double set” without dimensions and “cotton” without density gets returns where it could have avoided them. We build a catalog in which this data exists as fields: the filter works on them, buyers compare by them, and they are what spares the manager many of the unnecessary questions.

Situations where this service delivers results

Scenario 1 of 4

A bed linen and home textiles store

One set comes in several sizes and several colors. If every combination is a separate product page, the catalog bloats and stock per model is not counted at all.

We'll review your situation in a free audit
What's included

Complete list of work and what you get as a result

  • a catalog where one model is one product page with size and color variants
  • filters by size, composition, density, color and purpose
  • a size chart in centimeters on the product page, not “euro” or “double” without figures
  • fabric composition and density as catalog fields suitable for filtering and comparison
  • sale by the meter with a minimum cut length, if you need it
  • stock tracking for each variant separately, with out-of-stock items hidden
  • checkout with Ukrainian delivery and payment methods
  • technical groundwork for search: structured data, breadcrumbs, canonical URLs, a sitemap
  • handover with a catalog description and rules for adding new items
When this service isn't right

What's not included — so there are no surprises at delivery

  • photographing textiles and color correction of the shots
  • writing product descriptions and care recommendations
  • arrangements with suppliers on availability and lead times
  • promises of search rankings or a specific sales volume
  • a guarantee that the shade matches on any buyer's screen

We look at what makes textiles a separate niche: sizes, composition and colors. This is where most returns and most unnecessary questions to the manager come from.

What we measure

  1. How many stock-keeping units there really areWhat counts is not models but “model × size × color” combinations. This figure determines the catalog structure and the volume of data migration.
  2. What form the sizes are inIf the description says “double” and gives no centimeters, the buyer cannot compare the set with what they already have at home.
  3. Whether composition and density are fields100% cotton and 300-thread-count sateen are different products. As long as this is text in a description, it cannot be filtered or compared.
  4. Whether anything is sold by the meterFractional quantities and a minimum cut length change the logic of the cart and stock tracking, and this has to be planned from the very start.
  5. How colors are shownOne product in eight shades should be one product page with a switch; otherwise the catalog turns into a feed of identical items.
  6. The technical state of your current siteResponse speed, structured data, canonical URLs, breadcrumb markup: the same things we measured in the stores of this niche.

What you get

  • a figure: how many stock-keeping units you have, including sizes and colors
  • a proposed catalog structure for variants
  • an estimate of the work broken down by stage
  • an honest answer on whether you need this work at all

Timeline: 2–4 working days

Why is it free

A store with 80 sets and a store that also sells fabric by the meter differ in scope several times over. Without a review, any figure would be guesswork.

What's next

You get the list and the estimate. The decision is yours, and the document stays with you either way.

What affects the price

Why two seemingly identical tasks are priced differently

  • Number of stock-keeping unitsWhat counts are “model × size × color” combinations. This figure, not the number of models, determines the volume of migration and the complexity of stock tracking.
  • State of the composition and size dataIf the data is already in fields, filters are quick to build. If everything is text in descriptions, it first has to be split into fields, and that is a separate stage.
  • Sale by the meterFractional quantities, a minimum cut length and price recalculation per meter are a separate logic in the cart and stock tracking, not just another unit of measure.
  • Number of colors per modelColor switching with photo swapping and separate stock for each shade is a noticeable part of the work on the product page.
  • Where the stock data comes fromManual entry is the cheapest at the start. An exchange with an accounting system costs more, but removes daily work and availability errors.
  • How ready the photos areShots in the same light and at the same angle give a catalog that looks consistent. Mixed photos from suppliers need sorting out, and that is a separate amount of work.
Process steps

Transparent stages with approval at every step

Total duration:20–55 days

  1. Reviewing the task

    2–4 working days

We count stock-keeping units including sizes and colors, look at the state of the composition and density data, and find out whether sale by the meter is needed.

  2. Catalog structure

    3–7 working days

We design the catalog so that one model is one product page with variants. We define the set of fields: size in centimeters, composition, density, care.

  3. Building the store

    10–28 working days

We build the catalog, the product page with a size chart and color switching, and filters by composition and size. We work in a test environment.

  4. Stock, sale by the meter and orders

    5–12 working days

We set up stock tracking for each variant, add sale by the meter with a minimum cut length if needed, connect delivery and payment, and test the combinations.

  5. Technical groundwork for search

    3–7 working days

Structured data, breadcrumbs, canonical URLs, a sitemap, response speed. In the measured stores of this niche, these were the things most often missing.

  6. Launch and handover

    2–5 working days

We roll out the store, watch the first orders and hand over the catalog description. After that the 30-day warranty applies from the date the acceptance act is signed.

A catalog with variants or a separate product page for each combination

How this option differs from the alternative

A separate product page for each size and colorOur approach
What a category looks likea feed of nearly identical itemsone model, one product page with a switch
Stock per modelnot calculated at all, only per individual product pagecalculated automatically from the variants
Size filtershows product pages that may not have the size neededshows the variants in stock
Content manager's workas many entries as there are combinationsa new model is added once, with its variants
Launch complexitylower, which is exactly why most stores start this wayhigher: the structure has to be designed

a sample of 5 Ukrainian online stores in the “textiles” niche

Task
Find out what state sites in the “textiles” niche are actually in, rather than what their owners say: the technical groundwork, measurement and site size.
Solution
An external measurement without access to anyone's admin panels: first response time as the median of several measurements, the catalog from the sitemap with URL deduplication, counters in the home page HTML, the PHP version from the headers, hreflang, TLS, robots.txt and the canonical URL.
Result
Measured on 17 September 2026: 5 Ukrainian online stores in the “textiles” niche were checked. 5 of 5 have no breadcrumb markup; 3 of 5 have no local business markup; 3 of 5 have no canonical URL on the homepage; 1 of 5 have no analytics counter on the homepage. Median first response time: 331.4 ms; median sitemap size: 3,007 URLs.

2PM

a retail online lingerie store with a catalog of more than 110,000 product items

Task
Sell lingerie online across Ukraine so that buyers choose their size themselves without consulting a manager, which reduces the number of returns. Every size and color is set up as a separate item, so the catalog grows to a hundred thousand pages: this structure has to be kept within a single store, with navigation by categories and brands preserved and the pages kept indexable.
Solution
A store on OpenCart 3 (the oct_luxury theme by Octemplates, Apache, HTTP/2, gzip). Three language versions: root ru, /ua/ and /pl/. The sitemap is built as an index of 42 sub-sitemaps (39 product sitemaps of 3,000 URLs each plus categories, brands and info pages), which is the correct way to serve a catalog of this size. Product pages carry full product JSON-LD markup: Product, Offer, Brand, MerchantReturnPolicy, OfferShippingDetails, ShippingDeliveryTime, DefinedRegion, ImageObject. The home page has ClothingStore markup, WebSite/SearchAction, ContactPoint, PostalAddress, OpeningHoursSpecification, GeoCoordinates. Delivery by Nova Poshta in three options (branch, courier, parcel locker) plus Ukrposhta. Analytics and advertising: GTM, GA4, Google Ads, a remarketing module passing product_id to Google Ads and Facebook.
Result
115,456 product items, a figure confirmed by two independent methods: the built-in OpenCart search returns 1,154 pages of 100 items plus 56 on the last one (115,456), and the sitemap gives 112,646 unique product URLs, a discrepancy of 2.4%. This is the largest catalog in the measured sample. A product page returns its first response in 0.39 s, a category page in 0.47 s. 129 categories, 334 brands, three language versions. Measured 1 August 2026.
What we need from you

We can't start without this — best to prepare in advance

  1. a list of items with sizes, colors, composition and stock
  2. whether fabric is sold by the meter and what the minimum cut length is
  3. product photos or access to the source they come from
  4. your store's terms for delivery, exchanges and returns
  5. where an order should go after checkout
  6. who on your side accepts the work and can answer on substance
If something is missing — let us know, we'll help you gather it or do it as a separate task.
FAQ

Most frequently asked questions — with concrete answers

Why list sizes in centimeters if everyone knows what “double” means?

Because “double” means different sets at different manufacturers, and buyers know this from experience. Centimeters remove the uncertainty: a person compares against what they already have at home and orders with confidence. It is the cheapest way to prevent some returns, because it takes accurate data rather than development.

Can you guarantee the color will match the photo?

No, and it is better to say so honestly than to keep quiet: the shade depends on the buyer's screen. What can be done is to shoot in the same light, show the fabric in close-up and state plainly that a slight deviation is possible. This prevents some returns, but not all of them, and we do not promise otherwise.

We sell fabric by the meter. Is that more complicated?

Yes, it is a separate logic. The quantity becomes fractional, you get a minimum cut length and per-meter pricing, and stock is counted in meters rather than in pieces. This is not a problem, but it has to be planned from the very start: adding sale by the meter to a finished store costs more than building it in right away.

How long does development take?

23 to 59 working days. The range depends on the number of stock-keeping units and on whether sale by the meter is needed. We name the exact timeline after the review, once we have counted the size and color combinations.

Do you guarantee search rankings?

No. Nobody who understands how search works guarantees rankings. We are responsible for the technical groundwork: speed, structured data, canonical URLs, breadcrumbs and a sitemap. In the stores of this niche that we measured, these were the things most often missing.

All our data is in the descriptions. Will it have to be moved by hand?

Part of it can be split into fields automatically if the descriptions are written in a consistent way; the rest has to be gone through by hand. During the review we show the approximate ratio, so the size of this work is visible in advance rather than surfacing in the middle of the project.

What happens after launch if something goes wrong?

A 30-calendar-day warranty applies from the date the acceptance act is signed: errors that are our fault are fixed free of charge. This is a clause in the contract. The domain, hosting and analytics are registered in your name.

Who owns the result?

Yours. Property rights to the code, design and materials pass to the client after full payment, and the result is handed over under an acceptance act. The catalog description is handed over together with the access credentials.
